Learn to subscribe to, change, or cancel your plan.
Whether you’re a free user looking to subscribe to a plan, or a paid user looking to change or cancel your plan, this is the article for you. Currently only TestGorilla account owners can subscribe to plans or make changes to billing information.

Subscribe to or change your plan
Subscribing to a new plan and upgrading an existing plan are very similar. There are a few ways to get to the page to select a plan. You can either:
- Head to the Plan & billing tab found in your account settings, and click the Change plan or See all plans buttons.
- Add a feature or test to your assessment that is not included in your current plan, as indicated by a diamond. A pop-up will appear letting you know how you can use this feature on your current plan. That pop-up will also include a link to upgrade your plan.
- If you currently have a Free forever plan, you can click the Upgrade now button in the top right corner of your account.
- Attempt to invite an external candidate to an assessment containing a test or feature not included in your current plan. This will trigger a pop-up prompting you to upgrade.
Once you've reached the plan selection page, follow the steps below:

Select a plan As of July 2025, we offer the following subscription plans:
Core and Plus plans operate using a credit system. Credits are used for actions such as evaluating or sourcing candidates. Core plan customers can upgrade their credit tier in-app, up to 20,000 credits. To purchase more than 20,000 credits, you must contact our team. Plus customers can work with our Sales team to determine the right tier. Each plan comes with a specific feature set and credit flexibility to match your hiring needs. Pricing is based on annual upfront payment. Monthly billing is not available. |

Enter or confirm your billing information When subscribing to a plan for the first time, you’ll need to fill in your company name, address, and payment information to complete the transaction. We accept all major credit cards as well as PayPal. If you want to use PayPal, check out the Using PayPal section below.

Taxes
TestGorilla is a Dutch company. As such, we charge VAT where applicable. The country of your billing address determines VAT charges.
If you are charged VAT, you will be informed of this during checkout, as it is not included in the advertised price.
If you are a registered business with a VAT number, a space will appear on the checkout page for you to enter it, if VAT is being charged. If VAT is not being charged, this box will not appear.
| Note: Entering your VAT number does not necessarily mean the reverse charge mechanism will be applied. For example, if your company is also registered in The Netherlands, VAT is still charged. |
Subscribe
After finalizing your payment details, hit that Subscribe button! Your new plan will begin immediately and will automatically renew in one year. For more information about billing cycles please review the billing cycles section of our plan & billing guide.
Using PayPal
To use PayPal for your purchase, you’ll need to add your PayPal details to your account before upgrading. You’ll do this from the Plan & billing tab.
- Click the Payment method link.
- Select the PayPal tab from the top of the onscreen pop-up.
- Enter your PayPal details.
After entering your PayPal details, you’ll be able to proceed with upgrading your plan.
Information about upgrading and downgrading
Upgrading
If you’re upgrading from a lower-tiered paid plan (or from a Free forever plan), you will be billed for the full amount of your new plan. Your renewal date will change to the date of your upgrade.
Example:
Emily is on a Starter plan that will renew on August 10th.
Today is April 1st.
She upgrades to a Core plan.
Her new auto-renewal date is April 1st.
Upgrading from the Free forever plan:
Free forever to Core: Upgrade directly in the app. Go to Plan & Billing and select Core. You'll be billed annually upfront and receive your Core credit allocation immediately.
Free forever to Plus: Upgrade in the app or contact our Sales team. Sales can help you customize your plan based on feature access, number of users, and credit volume.

Need more than 20,000 credits?
Core plan customers who require more than 20,000 credits annually must contact our Sales team to upgrade to a Plus plan.
Automatic upgrades
You can also enable automatic upgrades. When your available credits drop to 100 or fewer, your plan will automatically move to the next tier so your hiring process is never interrupted. Your renewal date stays the same.
To enable auto-upgrade:
Navigate to the Plan & billing tab in your account.
Find the Enable auto-upgrade section.
Toggle the switch to turn auto-upgrade on.
That’s it! Once enabled, your account will automatically upgrade whenever your balance falls below 100 credits.
Disable auto-upgrade
If you no longer want credits to be added automatically, you can disable auto-upgrade at any time.
To disable auto-upgrade:
Navigate to the Plan & billing tab in your account.
Find the Enable auto-upgrade section.
Toggle the switch to turn auto-upgrade off.
Once disabled, your plan will stay on your current credit tier. If you run low on credits, you’ll need to upgrade manually.
Plus plan upgrades
New Plus plan subscriptions are not available via self-service and require contacting our Sales team. However, existing Plus plan customers can now upgrade to a higher credit tier directly within the application. Our Sales team will work with you to customize your plan based on feature access, number of users, required credit volume, discount eligibility, and contract length.
Downgrading
If you downgrade from a higher-tiered plan (for example, from Plus to Core or from Core to Free forever plan), the new plan will not take effect until your current subscription period ends. This includes downgrading to a Free forever plan.
Downgrading to a lower credit tier within the same plan (e.g., Core 10,000 credits to Core 4,000 credits) is not currently possible via self-service. Please contact us if you wish to reduce your tier.
Example:
Emily is on a Core plan and her subscription will renew on August 10th.
On April 1st, she initiates a downgrade to the Free forever plan.
She will continue to have full access to her Core plan features and credits until August 10th.
On that date, her plan will change to Free forever plan.
You will retain all of your data when you downgrade to a lower plan. However, any features not included in your new plan will become inaccessible. This includes assessments that use premium features or custom question types—these will be marked with a red diamond and can no longer be edited or used.
Cancel your plan
On the Free forever plan? There's nothing to cancel. The Free forever plan is free and stays active as long as you have an account. You'll continue receiving 10 credits per month automatically.
On a paid plan? We’re sorry to see you go! As with other billing items, only the account owner can cancel your plan. To cancel, navigate to the Plan & Billing tab and click Manage plan.

If you would still like to cancel your subscription, click Unsubscribe anyway to confirm your cancellation.
Your plan will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle. During this time, you will retain access to all data and features associated with your Core or Plus plan.
| Note: Any unused credits will expire at the end of your contract period. Credits do not roll over, and there is no refund or proration for unused credit balances. |
Data access
Once your plan downgrades to the Free forever plan, you will no longer have access to candidate results for any assessments that include premium features or question types only available on Core or Plus plans.
We highly recommend downloading your assessment reports and candidate results before your plan expires. You can find PDF reports and CSV exports under the Results section of each assessment.
Assessments using restricted features will be marked with a red diamond after your plan downgrades.
Common questions
What payment methods can I use?
We currently accept all major credit cards (including American Express) and PayPal. We cannot accept payment via bank transfer. If you plan to use PayPal for an upgrade, you’ll need to add the details before making the purchase. You can see how to do that here.
What currencies do you offer?
We currently offer plans in five different currencies. Please see the section Select a currency for more information.
I canceled my plan. Why am I still being charged?
Most likely, your plan has not finished its billing cycle yet, so you’re still on a premium plan. If you are on a legacy plan with overage credits while your plan is still active, you will continue to be billed for them monthly per our terms of use.
If you haven’t used the plan since the day you downgraded to Free forever plan and it’s within 30 days of your downgrade, you most likely hit the end of your monthly billing cycle and were charged for any outstanding overages. After reviewing your invoices, if anything is unclear, contact us — we’re happy to help.
Do you charge GST (Goods and Services Tax)?
As we are a Dutch company, we are only required to charge VAT (Value Added Tax) to customers located in the European Union. For companies outside of the EU, TestGorilla is considered an export, so neither VAT nor GST is charged.
Do you offer monthly pricing?
We do not offer monthly pricing for our Core or Plus plans. These are billed annually and include a credit allocation based on your tier. If you are on a monthly legacy plan and switch to a Core or Plus plan, you will not be able to return to your previous monthly option. Please read this article for full details on legacy plans.
How do I delete my billing information from my account?
While you can update your billing details at any time, you cannot delete them yourself. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to our terms and conditions, including payment for credits and overages (if applicable) through the end of your contract.
- Downgrade to a Free forever plan
- Download any data you want to retain
- Contact us. We can delete your billing information and deactivate your premium account access.
Do you offer discounts for non-profits?
Yes — we offer discounts for non-profits. Please send us valid tax documentation confirming your non-profit status, and we’ll provide you with a discount code.
Can I upgrade my Core credit tier automatically?
Yes. Core and Plus customers can either manually upgrade their credit tier within the app or opt in to automatic upgrades. When auto-upgrade is enabled, your plan will seamlessly move to the next tier once your credits fall to 100 or fewer. Your renewal date stays the same. You’ll receive an email confirmation whenever your plan is auto-upgraded.
Are Plus plans self-serve?
New Plus subscriptions must be arranged through our Sales team. However, existing Plus plan customers can upgrade to a higher credit tier directly within the app.
Am I charged for account users?
No, you’re not charged for adding users. However, different roles have different permissions depending on the plan:
- You can add unlimited hiring managers to your account at no cost. Hiring managers cannot create jobs or assessments, nor can they use credits.
- On the Core plan, you can have up to 2 premium users (owners, admins, or recruiters) who can create assessments and spend credits.
- On the Plus plan, you can add unlimited premium users with full access.
