How Sourcing works

  1. Start your search:
    1. For a search for a new job, start on the Home screen and click “Source candidates”
Start sourcing from the home screen
      OR
start on the Jobs screen, and click on New job and select “Source candidates”

    2. For a search for an existing job, start on the Jobs screen and click “Source talent”

  2. Tell us who you are looking for. Type a job title, paste the job description, or describe the person in your own words. For example: "Senior product designer for a fintech. Led a team of three. Based in New York."
  3. Check the search. We turn your brief into search criteria, such as job title, seniority, skills and location, including criteria you implied but didn't spell out. You can add your own requirements in plain words too, like "has worked in a marketplace". You decide what counts:
    1. Must haves - Candidates who don't match are filtered out.
    2. Nice to haves - Candidates matching the criteria are ranked higher, but candidates without it can still appear.
  4. See who fits, and why. You get a ranked list, with the strongest matches first. All the candidates that you see, meet your must have criteria. For each of your nice to have criteria, you'll see whether the candidate matches or doesn't, along with the evidence from their profile.
  5. Save and contact. Save anyone worth a second look to the job. It's free, with no limit. When you're ready, contact candidates by email from your connected mailbox, and keep the whole conversation in TestGorilla.
  6. Prove they can do the job. Once a candidate replies, invite them to an assessment in one click. Or attach an assessment to your first message.

Where your candidates come from

Every search covers 900M+ global profiles. Within these are 3M+ skills-tested candidates: people who created a TestGorilla profile themselves and have taken at least one of our skills tests.

Skills-tested candidates show their score on their candidate card, so you can see proof of skill before you reach out. To see only them, open the Skills tested tab.

For more detail, see Where Gorilla Sourcing candidates come from.

Before anyone contacts a candidate, an Owner or Admin needs to:

  1. Assign a Sourcing seat to that person in Team Management.
  2. Connect your account's mailbox in Integrations. Emails are sent from it.

What it costs

Gorilla Sourcing is priced per Sourcing seat. Each seat comes with a set number of invites.

  • Searching and saving are free.
  • Your first contact with a candidate for a job uses 1 invite. Follow-ups and replies about that job are included.
  • Contacting the same candidate for a different job uses another invite.

Sourcing invites are separate from your Gorilla Assessments credits. When a sourced candidate takes an assessment, that uses assessment credits as usual.

For seat allowances, see How Gorilla Sourcing invites work. For prices, see our pricing page.

If you already use TestGorilla

If your account was on a Core, Plus or External Recruitment Plus plan on October 1, you get 1 free Sourcing seat with 1,500 invites until December 31, 2026.

  • The seat arrives unassigned. An Owner or Admin needs to assign it in Team Management before anyone can contact candidates.
  • It ends on December 31. Any unused invites expire then. To keep contacting candidates after that, add Gorilla Sourcing to your plan.

Sourcing has also moved: you'll no longer find it in the side menu.

Common questions

Do candidates have to take an assessment?
That's up to you. You can attach an assessment when you contact a candidate, or wait: once they reply, inviting them to an assessment is one click away from your list.

How do candidates get back in touch with me?
Your email is sent from your connected mailbox, so candidates can reply to you directly. They can also say they're interested through the TestGorilla link in your message. Their status then updates in your candidate list.

I've run out of Sourcing credit invites. What now?
Check your plan's Sourcing seat and invite allowance - you can buy additional invites/seats from within the product or reach out to your account admin to add more. See Subscribe to, change, or cancel a plan for details.

Can I use Gorilla Sourcing without Gorilla Assessments?
Yes. You can buy either product on its own, or both together.

Will I see candidates who've already applied to my company?
Yes. If a candidate applied to one of your roles before and wasn't hired, they may still show up in Sourcing results, as long as their profile matches what you're searching for.
